Bummer
« on: September 07, 2011, 08:38:30 PM »
Well, as a result of a tumble down a hill side (involving a billy goat, a rope, a near cliff hill side and a superman pose) it looks like my hunting for this year is out the window for the next 6 - 8 weeks....and right after I ordered a new Boyd's stock for my '06...

Argh!  Just wanted someone to complain to someone who would understand.  Herself doesn't "get it" the way you guys will......

Of sorrow and sickness I've known on my way,
But I'm old and I'm nervis,
I'm cast from the Service,
And all I deserve is a shillin' a day.

I can feel your pain. That'll be $100.00 please. Seriously though, that does suck. Hope you recover soon.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

6 - 8  weeks in a hard cast is what they are telling me.  I have to go see the orthpedic docs later on to find out for sure,

One of those little bones in the wrist....

I'd sure like to hear more of the story.

Or is that asking too much, since you're probably typing one handed?   :chuckle:     :sry:

That sucks, Ross. Sorry to hear.

Well, ok, see I have this billy goat who has finished doing his "work" around my place.  My neighbor has some girly girl goats who are smelling real good to billy, so he figured he'd just run on down the road and hop the fence and, well, you know, do what guys do at times like that.

So, me being the responsible owner that I am, I shuffle on down the road to his house with rope in one hand and a can of COB (corn, oats, barley, sweetened with molasses...think Granola for livestock)...did I mention my neighbor lives in a house that sits on a near cliff side?
Great place for goats to live...

So anyway, I sprinkle a bit of COB onto the ground, goats all come up to eat and I gently toss my rope out to catch billy and I miss.   Billy, that is, I do catch one of the neighbor's girls who commences to bawl and complain and trys to go down the hill side - which is good footing for a goat, but not so much for a 50 some year old ex-GI with a bad back, bad eyes and bad luck.

We (goat and I) go hell bent for leather down the hill and suddenly, with no advance warning or anything, I lost my balance and did (at least for a moment) a wonderful Superman impression, hands outstretched, reaching for the stars, up, up and away!  Remember Issac Newton and "grabity"....I did...  My flight was short lived.  When I look at my left hand, my middle finger was crooked...very crooked.  I set the dislocation myself (and a wonderful job it was, too!)...but being the ex-medic type that I am figured I'd better get a film to make sure that that was all I did to myself.

Several hours and some ionizing radiation later, the ER sends me home comfortable in the knowledge that I fixed my finger fine myself, God was in His heaven and all was right in the world...for three days.  Then I get a phone call saying "oops.  The radiologist took a look at your film and thinks there is something wrong with the scaphoid....needs a better picture."

We go back to the hospital, get a new picture and sure enough, I have a closed fracture of the scaphoid which means I have to go back to the doctor next week and see about a cast.  Now, mind you, by this time it will be close to two (2) weeks after the fall...seems to me that the  bone is already set where it is going to be by now, and if it isn't right, they're not going to be allowed to rebreak it to fix it....so...

By the way, I did get Billy home eventually...and two days later he went back to my neighbor's house to finish working down there....

Stupid goat.

(Herself says I should have said "wrist" instead of scaphoid....so the scaphoid or navicular is a bone in the wrist, just under the thumb someplace)...

Broke my navicular playing flag football....a couple of weeks before I got married.  Spent 12 weeks in a cast almost up to my armpit.  To get things to heal right they stick your thumb up.  So it looked like I was running around giving everyone the "cheesy" thumbs up.  There's wedding pictures somewhere with me in that cast.  The Mrs wasn't too happy.

Hope you heal up fast.
